Poggio Argentiera

Guazza IGT: 100% Vermentino from a mix of old vines (30-40 years old) and newer vineyards along the coast. The grapes undergo temperature controlled fermentation for 15 days, and are aged in 100% stainless steel, in order to maintain all the intrinsic fruit and fragrance of this terroir and its native grape. Very crisp and appealing, with subtle notes of peaches and wild flowers.

Morellino di Scansano "Bellamarsilia" DOCG: Until the 2009 vintage, this was a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo, and 5% Alicante, from the younger, high-density vines around four miles from the coastline. As of the 2010 vintage, it is 85% Sangiovese and 15% Ciliegiolo. Two weeks' maceration on the skins, temperature-controlled fermentation; matures some four months before bottling (three-fourths in stainless steel, one-fourth in cement). Pronounced red fruit and black cherry characteristic of Maremma Sangiovese shine through in a fresh, appealing, crisp and forward red sustained by solid yet mellow structure. As the estate’s everyday Maremma offering, with a production averaging 150,000 bottles per year.

Maremmante IGT: 50% Syrah and 50% Alicante from new vines on the Podere Keeling property, at Scansano. Altitude is 820 feet a.s.l., and the terrain is very stony, rich in mineral components, yielding a maximum 3.08 lbs. per vine. Maceration on the skins for 10 days, temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine sojourns in stainless steel for some four months previous to bottling. This intriguing blend is a Mediterranean delight, exuding richness, sunny flavors, exotic spice, notes of licorice and coffee and gobs of dark fruit.

Morellino di Scansano "Capatosta" DOCG: 85% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo, and 5% Alicante from very old vines, around 30 years old. Since 2009 these grapes have been organically cultivated from vineyards along the Maremma coastline near Grosseto. Fermented and aged for 12 months in 20-hectoliter oak casks. Full-bodied, gorgeously extracted, elegantissimo, with very smooth, noble tannins. From the 2007 vintage, it may bear the Garantita denomination and Riserva wording. “Capatosta” is southern Italian slang for stubborn” – Gianpaolo’s whimsical tribute to his father.

Principio Antonio Camillo Maremma Toscana Rosso IGT: 100% Ciliegiolo from five acres of 40 year old vines near the town of Manciano in higher Maremma, 985 feet above sea level. The wine does not sojourn in wood, so as to maintain all the variety's intrinsic fragrance and freshness intact, as well as that slightly rustic quality, so characteristic of Maremma. A true Maremma wine, Principio keeps the palate clean and is an ideal match with classic Mediterranean cuisine, red meat, rich, flavorful dishes. It is robust and slightly rustic while also easy and appealing.
